Real Madrid is said to be eager to enhance the atmosphere for their Champions League quarter-final match against Manchester City by requesting UEFA’s permission to close the roof at Santiago Bernabeu, as reported by ESPN.
The club recently installed a retractable roof in their renovated stadium and believes that shutting it will create a more electrifying ambiance for this crucial encounter against the reigning champions.
The final decision on this request will be made by UEFA during the pre-match technical meeting, which is set to occur earlier in the day.
Closing the stadium roof will help Real Madrid create a passionate atmosphere, thereby putting great pressure on the team led by coach Pep Guardiola.
Prior to reaching a verdict, UEFA will consult with the designated match referee, Francois Letexier.
Man City arrived in Madrid for the crucial match missing two key defenders, Kyle Walker and Nathan Ake. Both players were left out of the 21-man squad due to injuries.
Following their match against Pep Guardiola’s team, Carlo Ancelotti’s squad will return to La Liga action on Saturday against Mallorca.
