Borussia Dortmund secured a narrow victory over Paris St-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final, thanks to a brilliant goal from Niclas Fullkrug.
The German striker showcased his skills by controlling a long ball with his right foot before unleashing a powerful left-footed shot into the net, giving Dortmund a 36th-minute lead.
Despite PSG’s attempts to equalize in the second half, including Kylian Mbappe’s curling effort that hit the post and Achraf Hakimi’s shot that struck the woodwork, Dortmund held on to their advantage. Fullkrug had a chance to score a second goal but missed from close range.
Dortmund’s direct and aggressive style of play proved effective against the Ligue 1 champions. Although PSG dominated possession in the first half, they failed to register a shot on target, while Dortmund created opportunities.
PSG manager Luis Enrique motivated his team during halftime, and Mbappe came close to scoring with a shot that hit the post. Hakimi also had a similar experience with his effort.
Ousmane Dembele, a former Dortmund player, missed a great chance to equalize late in the game. Fullkrug believed he should have been awarded a penalty after being fouled while attempting to head in a cross. The 1-0 scoreline sets up an exciting second leg at Parc des Princes on Tuesday.
