A schism has emerged within Bayern Munich’s dressing room regarding the imminent departure of manager Thomas Tuchel, with Harry Kane found at the center of the divide. Tuchel, the former Chelsea and PSG boss, is set to leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season following strained relations with club officials.
Bayern Munich officially announced their decision to part ways with Thomas Tuchel on Wednesday morning, amidst reports of significant discord among the playing staff regarding the manager’s future following the club’s recent poor performances. According to German outlet Bild, as many as 12 current players are embroiled in the divide, with some backing Tuchel while others favored his departure. It’s suggested that Harry Kane, recruited by Tuchel last summer, was among those supporting the manager.
Kane found support in his former Tottenham teammate Eric Dier, who reportedly backed Tuchel despite joining Bayern Munich only in January. Bayern captain Manuel Neuer shared a similar sentiment, reflecting Tuchel’s past support for Neuer during his injury struggles. Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, and Raphael Guerrero also stood behind Tuchel’s continuation at the club.
However, not all key figures supported Tuchel’s tenure. Legendary forward Thomas Muller, despite initially voicing support after the loss to Leverkusen, reportedly favored Tuchel’s departure. Key midfielder Joshua Kimmich, who had considered leaving the club if Tuchel remained, was also among those in favor of a change.
Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, Matthijs De Ligt, and Mathys Tel were reportedly aligned in their desire for Tuchel’s departure. Goretzka had previously expressed bewilderment at Julian Nagelsmann’s sacking, while the remaining players had seen their playing opportunities diminish this season, contributing to their frustration.
