Bayer Leverkusen, the reigning champions of the Bundesliga, delivered a resounding victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, extending their unbeaten streak to an impressive 48 matches across all competitions.
The match kicked off with a remarkable goal from Granit Xhaka in the 12th minute, as he struck the ball from outside the box, setting the tone for Leverkusen’s dominant performance.
Frankfurt managed to level the score through Hugo Ekitike, who executed a downward header from close range after receiving an excellent pass from Fares Chaibi. This goal caught Leverkusen’s defense off guard.
However, just before halftime, Patrick Schick restored Leverkusen’s lead by outjumping Niels Nkounkou and heading the ball into the net from an Adam Hlozek cross.
In the 58th minute, Exequiel Palacios capitalized on a penalty opportunity after Nathan Tella was fouled by Nkounkou inside the box. Palacios confidently converted the penalty, further solidifying Leverkusen’s advantage.
As a substitute, Jeremie Frimpong showcased his skills by finding the back of the net with a precise finish from Jonas Hofmann’s low cross. Leverkusen’s victory was sealed in the final minute when Victor Boniface successfully converted their second penalty of the match.
With this triumph, Xabi Alonso’s team now has only two league games remaining in their pursuit of an unbeaten season. However, their focus will soon shift to the second leg of the Europa League semi-final against Roma, where they currently hold a two-goal advantage.
