Graham Potter, the former manager of Brighton and Hove Albion, is now being considered as a potential candidate to take over at Borussia Dortmund, one of the German giants.
This comes a year after his departure from Chelsea, one of the Premier League giants. Despite being out of work for the past 12 months, Potter has declined several opportunities as he waits for the right job at the right time.
It is yet to be seen whether Potter views Borussia Dortmund as the ideal opportunity, but it is understood that he is eager to kick-start his managerial career. Dortmund has included him in the list of potential replacements for Edin Terzic. Terzic, a lifelong Dortmund fan and a beloved figure among the fans, has faced increasing uncertainty about his future in recent months.
Despite their impressive performance in the Champions League, with a quarter-final match against Atletico Madrid on the horizon, their domestic form has been disappointing. They currently sit fourth in the league and are 20 points behind Bayer Leverkusen, led by Xabi Alonso. Furthermore, they are at risk of missing out on a spot in next season’s Champions League, with RB Leipzig closely trailing them.
According to HITC, Arne Slot, who previously attracted interest from Tottenham and led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in 2023, is another potential replacement for Terzic. Franck Haise, the man who guided Lens from the second-tier of French football to become the second-best team behind Paris Saint-Germain, is also being considered.
However, Potter might find the opportunity at Dortmund intriguing, considering it is one of Europe’s most supported and historically significant clubs. Dortmund prides itself on developing young players and playing an attractive, fast-paced style of football.
Based on his previous work at Swansea and Brighton, Potter seems to possess the qualities that would align with Dortmund’s ambitions. It is worth noting that Dortmund came agonizingly close to winning the Bundesliga title last year, only to have it snatched away by Bayern Munich on the final day of the season.
