The transition of Eric Dier from a loanee to a permanent player at Bayern Munich has been confirmed subsequent to the fulfillment of the requisite contractual stipulations by the 30-year-old.
Dier commenced his tenure at Bayern through an initial loan agreement last month, wherein the Bundesliga powerhouse reportedly remitted a loan fee of €4 million (£3.4 million). This arrangement facilitated the reunion of Dier with his former Tottenham compatriot, Harry Kane, who had earlier transitioned to Bayern from Spurs in a transfer valued at £100 million during the summer.
Having participated in six fixtures for Bayern, the latest being a 2-1 victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday, Dier’s permanency at the club has been activated, as per reports by the Athletic.
The report further elaborates that Bayern intends to officially enlist Dier as a member of their squad without any transfer fee next summer, following the expiration of his contract with Tottenham. Despite Bayern’s lag of eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the title race, the club purportedly expresses contentment with Dier’s contributions.
After joining the club, Dier said: “This move is a dream come true for me. Because as a child you want to play for a club like Bayern one day. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world and has an incredible history.
“I want to help the team with my versatility in defence. I’m really looking forward to my new teammates and the fans at the Allianz Arena, which in my eyes is one of the best stadiums in the world.”
And Bayern legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has been impressed by the England international. ” Eric Dier surprised me a little, to be honest,” Rummenigge told Allgemeine Zeitung earlier this month.
“He hasn’t had much match practice at Tottenham this season, but he’s performed well in all the games he’s played for us so far and is an absolute alternative in defence. He’s physically powerful, strong with his head, tactically clever and has a great passing game going forward. And the fact that he’s a good mate of Harry Kane doesn’t hurt either.”
Bayern Munich is scheduled to resume play tomorrow evening as they confront Freiburg, preceding their encounter with Lazio in the forthcoming second leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday. Thomas Tuchel’s team suffered a 1-0 defeat in the initial leg, courtesy of a Ciro Immobile penalty, and endeavors to circumvent elimination in the round of 16 for the first instance since 2019.
