Alessandro Del Piero, a renowned figure in both the Juventus and Italian football realms, has drawn parallels between a goal he scored for Juventus in 2010 and one recently achieved by Kylian Mbappé during a match against Real Sociedad. Mbappé’s performance was instrumental in Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad on Tuesday evening, wherein he secured two goals. The manner in which Mbappé executed his initial goal resonated with Del Piero, a distinguished member of the Italian national team that clinched the 2006 World Cup.
Del Piero recalls a similar instance in August 2010 when he notably scored in a Europa League playoff encounter between Juventus and Sturm Graz, thereby recognizing resemblances between his own past achievement and Mbappé’s recent feat.
“There are similarities,” Del Piero said during Sky Sport Italia’s post-match show on Tuesday night.
“They are, also because in both cases, there wasn’t a second defender to press, leaving space to shoot in goal,” noted ex-Italian coach Capello, another Sky Sport Italia pundit on Champions League nights.
“Big champions see angles other players can’t see,” argued ex-Inter star Esteban Cambiasso.
“Other footballers can’t even think about it, let alone execute it.”
Del Piero achieved victory in the UEFA Champions League with Juventus in 1996; however, he experienced defeats in the finals of the tournament in 1997, 1998, and 2003.
Cambiasso attained triumph in the UEFA Champions League with Inter in 2010, under the management of José Mourinho.
Capello assumed managerial duties at Milan during the 1993-94 season, a period marked by the club’s attainment of the European title.
