Bayern Munich advanced to the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 3-0 victory over Lazio at the Allianz Arena, thanks to a brace from Harry Kane. The German side overturned a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Rome, where Kane scored their only goal.
The England striker reached 50 goals in European competitions when he nodded in from close range in the 31st minute. Thomas Muller added another header just before half-time, connecting with Matthijs de Ligt’s cross.
Lazio had a golden opportunity to get back into the tie when Ciro Immobile, who scored a penalty in the first leg, found himself unmarked in the box. However, he missed the target with his header.
Kane sealed Bayern’s place in the last eight with his second goal of the night and his 33rd of the season in all competitions. He reacted quickly to slot home the rebound after Leroy Sane’s shot was saved in the 66th minute.
Paris Saint-Germain also progressed to the quarter-finals with a 2-1 win at Real Sociedad, completing a 4-1 aggregate triumph. Kylian Mbappe scored both goals for the French side, who had a comfortable lead from the first leg.
Mbappe, who leads the scoring charts in Europe’s top five leagues this season, opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a superb curling shot from the edge of the box. He doubled his tally and PSG’s advantage in the 56th minute with a powerful strike from Lee Kang-in’s pass. Mikel Merino scored a late consolation for Sociedad.
