VfB Stuttgart’s leading goal-scorer, Serhou Guirassy, demonstrated his prowess by netting twice, securing a 3-2 triumph against VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday. This victory not only solidified their position in third place in the Bundesliga standings but also brought them within closer reach of Bayern Munich in second.
Guirassy, whose tally now stands at 20 league goals for the season, opened the scoring for the visitors with a deftly executed header in the 14th minute.
Wolfsburg managed to equalize five minutes into the second half, as Joakim Maehle exploited a gap in the offside trap, finding ample space within the box to curl a shot past goalkeeper Alexander Nuebel.
However, Maehle was subsequently adjudged to have fouled Enzo Millot in the box, resulting in a penalty kick which Guirassy confidently converted, restoring Stuttgart’s lead in the 54th minute.
Josha Vagnoman further extended their advantage with a goal in the 77th minute, before Wolfsburg narrowed the deficit with a Lukas Nmecha strike six minutes later.
Stuttgart currently occupy the third spot in the league with 50 points, trailing Bayern by four points, following Bayern’s 2-2 draw against Freiburg on Friday. Borussia Dortmund, in fourth place, trails six points behind with 44 points.
It’s worth noting that the top four teams in the Bundesliga standings qualify for the Champions League in the following season. (Reporting by Karolos Grohmann Editing by Christian Radnedge)
