Head coach Diego Simeone has stated that Borussia Dortmund poses the toughest challenge for Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Dortmund currently holds the fifth position in the Bundesliga and is making their first appearance in the Champions League quarter-finals since 2021.
Atletico, playing the first leg at home, aims to advance to the semi-finals for the first time since 2017.
Ex-Argentina midfielder Simeone praised their numerous commendable attributes. He acknowledged them as the most formidable adversary, highlighting their unbeaten streak on away matches for the past four months and their exceptional counter-attacking skills.
Furthermore, he emphasized their immense strength in both defensive and offensive areas, labeling them as the most relentless team among the remaining eight competitors in the tournament.
Dortmund coach Edin Terzic expressed admiration for the Spanish team, praising their distinctive style of play.
“The renowned tactics that contribute to Atletico Madrid’s remarkable success are widely acknowledged,” he remarked.
“Their innovative approach to defending poses a formidable challenge for any team worldwide.”
Unfortunately, the visitors will be without the services of Netherlands forward Donyell Malen due to illness, while Germany midfielder Emre Can’s availability remains uncertain due to sickness.
