Wolverhampton Wanderers are said to be in pole position to secure the services of Southampton striker Che Adams when he becomes a free agent in the summer transfer window of 2024 at Molineux, as per The Telegraph.
Throughout the majority of the 2023/24 season, Wolves have been without a recognized striker, with Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan often filling in the No. 9 position.
Manager Gary O’Neil had hoped to bring in a dedicated striker during the winter transfer window of 2024, but was unable to do so due to the club needing to adhere to the Premier League’s financial regulations. Adams will be available on a free transfer once his contract with Southampton expires this summer.
According to a report by Mike McGrath and John Percy in The Telegraph, Wolves are currently leading the race to secure the signing of Che Adams as a free agent once he becomes available in June. The 27-year-old has also attracted interest from Everton and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, but their top-flight status for the next season remains uncertain.
Adams, who has been praised by Southampton manager Russell Martin as “brilliant,” is eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs for a pre-contract ahead of the summer, but there is significant interest from English clubs to sign him on a free transfer.
O’Neil has been eyeing a striker for Wolves for some time now, especially after missing out on Yuri Alberto and Armando Broja on Deadline Day of the 2024 winter transfer window. The 40-year-old manager is keen on bringing Adams to Molineux.
With a potential qualification for European football next season, Wolves may need to make further signings to cope with the added pressure on their schedule. Adams, the Scotland international, has had a productive season at Southampton, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.
