Napoli’s key striker, Victor Osimhen, underwent separate training on Friday due to a bout of fever, as confirmed by an official statement from the club. Osimhen, aged 25, engaged in gym exercises rather than joining his teammates on the pitch. Additionally, Cyril Ngonge, another Napoli player, trained separately due to a minor injury, balancing activities between the pitch and gym.
Despite his absence from the group training session, Osimhen’s participation in Napoli’s upcoming Serie A fixture against Cagliari remains likely. Sky Sport Italia reports that the Nigerian forward, who recently contributed a goal in Napoli’s 1-1 draw against Barcelona in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg, is not at risk of missing the Cagliari match scheduled for Sunday, February 25.
Having returned from international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Barcelona fixture marked Osimhen’s first club appearance in 2024. Despite this, he has been a consistent performer, tallying nine goals across 19 appearances in various competitions this season.
