Vincenzo Italiano elucidates the rationale behind his decision to field an unchanged starting XI for the 0-0 draw against Torino, marking a departure from his customary approach in the preceding 141 Fiorentina matches. He expresses relief at the outcome, stating, “Thank goodness we didn’t lose.”
The fixture commenced with an unexpected development, as Italiano opted to deploy an identical starting lineup for consecutive matches for the first instance since assuming managerial responsibilities for the Viola in 2021, thus discontinuing the streak of 141 varied line-ups.
“Thank goodness we didn’t lose,” joked Italiano on Sky Sport Italia.
“I thought the XI that did so well against Lazio deserved to keep their places. We did however change a few functions of these players, as for example Lucas Beltran was more of a pure striker today, as we needed him alongside Belotti. They were the same players, but with different functions.”
