Journalist Charles Watts has reported that AC Milan presented an enticing proposition to secure the services of Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson during the previous summer transfer window. However, Arsenal opted against allowing Nelson to depart on a free transfer, thus thwarting Milan’s efforts.
Watts reveals that Milan came close to finalizing a deal for the 24-year-old former U21 England international, with their offer garnering significant interest from within Arsenal’s ranks. Despite widespread belief that Nelson would join Milan due to the attractiveness of their proposal, his affinity for Arsenal and the satisfaction of manager Mikel Arteta with his performances in the preceding season played a pivotal role in his decision to stay.
In order to retain Nelson, Arsenal extended his contract until June 2027, with an option for an additional year. Despite this commitment, Nelson has struggled for playing time during the current season, amassing only 656 minutes across various competitions. With just one goal and three assists in 23 appearances for the Gunners, Watts predicts that Nelson is likely to depart from Arsenal at the conclusion of the season.
