West Ham initiates negotiations for the acquisition of a £26m winger from Corinthians

Wesley Gassova has caught the attention of renowned football clubs such as Liverpool and Atletico Madrid.

West Ham has initiated discussions regarding the potential signing of Corinthians winger Wesley Gassova. The talented 19-year-old is highly regarded in Brazil and is a top priority for sporting director Tim Steidten.

Negotiations have commenced promptly to outmaneuver competitors such as Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, and Real Betis in securing his services.

Corinthians have placed a £26 million price tag on Wesley, however, West Ham is aiming to negotiate a lower fee. The transfer is intricate due to Corinthians only holding 70% of the player’s rights, while the remaining 30% is owned by the winger’s representatives from Sao Paulo.

Wesley is versatile, capable of playing on either flank, but he mainly operates as a left winger with a strong right foot. With four goals and two assists this season, the attacker has made 60 appearances for the Sao Paulo giants since his debut at the age of 17 in 2022.

West Ham is eager to bolster their attacking options in the upcoming summer transfer window in order to alleviate the pressure on Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen.

Lucas Paqueta is attracting attention from Manchester City this summer, however, he is currently unaware of his future due to an ongoing FA investigation regarding alleged betting violations.

The interest in Wesley is not related to David Moyes’s expected departure in the summer. The 61-year-old is reportedly going to be succeeded by former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui at the conclusion of the season.
