Marco Silva’s Fulham contract reportedly includes a release clause valued at £8.6 million. The 46-year-old manager extended his contract until the end of the 2026 season in October.
Silva’s decision to stay in West London came after turning down offers from Saudi Pro League teams Al-Hilal and Al Ahli. Following another successful season, where he guided Fulham to Premier League safety and led them to the Carabao Cup semi-finals, Silva may attract interest from other clubs this summer.
Previous interested clubs, such as West Ham, will be alerted by this news. If the set fee is met, these clubs will have the opportunity to negotiate with Silva. Currently, Fulham sits in 13th place after a recent defeat to Nottingham Forest, comfortably positioned 17 points above the relegation zone with seven games remaining.
Since his tenure at Estoril in 2011, Silva has had a well-traveled career, starting in his homeland of Portugal.
Following a successful three-year stint, during which he guided them to top-flight promotion, he made the move to Sporting Lisbon and secured the Taca de Portugal trophy.
Under his leadership, they achieved a remarkable 17-match winning streak in the Greek league en route to becoming champions.
Despite the triumph, he decided to step down after just one year due to personal reasons. However, shortly after, he found himself in the Premier League.
In January 2017, Silva was appointed as the manager of Hull City, who were struggling at the bottom of the table.
Although he led them to the semi-finals of the League Cup, he was unable to prevent their relegation, resulting in his resignation.
Shortly after leaving Hull City, he took over as the manager of Watford. However, his time at Vicarage Road took a negative turn in November.
After a promising start, he was heavily linked with the managerial position at Everton. Subsequently, their Premier League form suffered, with only five points earned out of a possible 33.
On 31 May 2018, Silva was officially announced as the manager of Everton, signing a three-year contract. He guided them to an eighth-placed finish in his debut season.
Unfortunately, he was dismissed in December 2019 following a 5-2 loss to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby, which left Everton in the relegation zone.
He had to patiently wait until the next summer for another chance to arise, which came when Fulham approached him after their relegation. This led to him successfully achieving promotion on his first attempt.
