Multiple sources in Italy, including DAZN’s Orazio Accomando, report a dramatic shakeup at Napoli. Walter Mazzarri is reportedly overseeing his final training session today, on the eve of their crucial Champions League game against Barcelona.
Francesco Calzona is expected to be formally announced as the new manager later today, signing a four-month contract until the season’s end. This sudden move comes after Mazzarri’s underwhelming performance, collecting only 15 points in 12 Serie A matches since his return last November. The question now lies on whether Calzona can galvanize the team under immense pressure for their upcoming Champions League tie.
Napoli has named Francesco Calzona as their interim manager until the end of the season, while also bringing back former staff members with Spalletti connections.
Calzona, previously assistant to Maurizio Sarri and Luciano Spalletti at Lazio, will step in while continuing his role as Slovakia national team manager for the next four months.
Additionally, fitness coach Francesco Sinatti, who worked with Spalletti at Italy, will rejoin the club at the Stadio Maradona. The potential inclusion of Marek Hamsik, former Napoli star, in Calzona’s staff is also being explored.
If all goes well, Calzona will make his Napoli debut against Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday.
