The Safety and Security Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has acknowledged instances of violence and misconduct at various Premier League venues during Match Day 23.
The Committee expresses profound concern regarding the unacceptable and unsportsmanlike incidents that have transpired at certain match venues recently, particularly condemning the disturbances witnessed at the Kumasi Sports Stadium on the previous Sunday.
The Committee is deeply troubled by the blatant assault on match officials during the Premier League fixture involving Asante Kotoko and Nations FC in Kumasi on Sunday, March 24, 2024.
Referee James Taylor, along with his assistants Kwesi Brobbey and Roland Addy, as well as fourth official Hasim Yakubu, were reportedly subjected to verbal abuse and physical attacks by spectators at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The Safety and Security Committee underscores that such acts of misconduct will not be tolerated and pledges to collaborate with pertinent stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies such as the Police, to eradicate hooliganism and reinstate orderliness at match venues.
The Committee has initiated action on this matter and is in communication with the Kumasi Regional Police Command to apprehend those accountable for the aforementioned transgressions.
As of now, four suspects have been identified, and it is anticipated that they will cooperate fully with the ongoing police investigations.
Individuals responsible for disturbances at match venues must not be permitted to besmirch the reputation of the sport.
The Football Association reaffirms its dedication to eliminating the scourge of violence at match venues within Ghanaian football.
Furthermore, we remind clubs, team officials, and supporters of their fundamental responsibilities and obligations before, during, and after all football matches.
The Safety and Security Committee is committed to enforcing pertinent regulations and fostering a secure match-day environment for players, match officials, supporters, and all stakeholders associated with the sport.
