Tottenham Hotspur is said to be closely monitoring the performance of Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson as they consider a potential summer transfer.
The Icelandic international gained significant attention after scoring a remarkable hat-trick for his national team against Israel last Thursday.
Gudmundsson not only equalized for Iceland with an impressive free kick but also added two late goals, leading his team to a 4-1 victory and securing their place in the Euro 2024 playoff final.
This hat-trick marked his second in 36 international appearances and further highlighted his excellent form in Serie A with Genoa.
Transfer expert Jacque Talbot has stated that Spurs are keeping a close eye on Gudmundsson as they seek to provide competition for Richarlison. The 26-year-old forward has been instrumental in Genoa’s return to Serie A, overshadowing Mateo Retegui, a full Italy international.
Gudmundsson played a crucial role in Genoa’s promotion from Serie B last season, contributing 11 goals and five assists. He has seamlessly adapted to the top flight and has already reached double figures in terms of league goals, with Genoa currently sitting comfortably in 12th place.
Genoa, who acquired Gudmundsson for approximately £1m in 2022, are likely to make a substantial profit from his sale this summer. Given their previous dealings in Serie A, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou may once again explore this market to strengthen his squad for the upcoming season. It is worth noting that Spurs have recently conducted business with Genoa, having signed Radu Dragusin from the Italian club in January.
Additionally, Spurs secured the services of Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario last summer, who has emerged as one of the standout performers in the Premier League and is now challenging Gianluigi Donnarumma for the starting position in the Italian national team.
The fact that Dragusin, Vicario, and Gudmundsson share the same agency could potentially enhance Tottenham’s chances of securing the Icelandic attacker’s signature this summer. Gudmundsson will once again be in action for Iceland in the upcoming playoff.
