Tottenham Hotspur, one of the top clubs in the Premier League, is looking to prolong Timo Werner’s loan agreement with RB Leipzig until the summer of 2025 instead of activating the buyout option in the player’s contract at the end of the season.
The talented German player has been performing well since his return to England in January and is being considered for a longer stay at the club in North London.
Tottenham holds a £15.5 million option-to-buy clause in Timo Werner’s contract. Reports suggest that despite Werner’s impressive performances at Spurs, the club is considering extending his loan for another year instead of making a permanent purchase at the end of the season.
The decision ultimately lies with Leipzig, as Werner’s contract with the Bundesliga side is set to expire in 2026.
The 28-year-old player was signed in the winter to compensate for the absence of Tottenham captain Heung-Min Son during the Asian Cup. Werner has scored two goals and provided three assists in his nine Premier League appearances up to now.
Moreover, despite the common critiques regarding the ex-Stuttgart player’s occasional inefficiency in the attacking third, Werner’s speed, dedication, and positioning have proven him to be a valuable asset to Ange Postecoglou’s team as they strive to qualify for the Champions League.
