Thibaut Courtois endured a challenging day as he encountered a setback during Tuesday’s training session with Real Madrid, sustaining a meniscus tear in his right knee—the opposite one from his previous ACL injury. This new injury is anticipated to sideline him for nearly two months, effectively concluding his season without any game time.
Courtois had previously suffered an ACL injury in August, just prior to the commencement of the La Liga season. Following the incident, he underwent a successful surgical procedure and had been progressing well in his rehabilitation before this latest setback.
According to reports from The Athletic (cited via MD), Courtois is scheduled to undergo his second knee surgery of the season within the next 24 hours. Fortunately, this procedure is expected to be less invasive and less severe compared to the one he underwent in August.
Upon completion of his surgery, Courtois’ focus will shift towards recuperation and returning to full fitness as swiftly as possible. Although his aim is to rejoin the Real Madrid squad for the following season, his status as a guaranteed starter remains uncertain, particularly given the noteworthy performances of Andriy Lunin.
