Tottenham Hotspur’s leadership believes they have an undiscovered young talent who could be the next big star to emerge from their academy. This comes as the club’s academy, known as N17, has been successful in developing several notable players in recent years. Jamie Donley, for instance, has been impressive enough to earn his senior debut under manager Ange Postecoglou this season.
Troy Parrott is currently on a fruitful loan at Excelsior in the Netherlands, and Oliver Skipp has proven to be a reliable option for Postecoglou’s matchday squad. Dane Scarlett, who has been likened to Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, is another product of the academy’s success.
Despite these successes, Postecoglou believes there is room for improvement in the academy to ensure a consistent production of top-level talent. The focus on nurturing young talent is a testament to the club’s commitment to building a strong future team from within its own ranks.
“There was already a process in place before I came in and yeah like I said, some of it is around the methodology we use, but also a little bit of opportunity. I guess if young players don’t feel there is an opportunity here maybe we don’t get the best ones or maybe we don’t provide the opportunities for the best ones, so my role in that is to make sure the good ones we have do get an opportunity.
“And secondly, other young good young players around the country, not just around the world, see this as a club where if you are talented, you will get an opportunity.”
Spurs are actively seeking to acquire some of Europe’s brightest talents from abroad, having recently outmaneuvered Barcelona for the signing of Djurgardens IF prodigy Lucas Bergvall during the January transfer window.
At N17, another highly-regarded prospect is the young midfielder Callum Olusesi. Spurs have secured a new contract for Olusesi, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. Pete O’Rourke has also provided insights into how Spurs view the promising youngster.
Indeed, according to O’Rourke, writing for Football Insider, Tottenham chiefs think Olusesi is a “star in the making”.
Spurs successfully resisted interest from Manchester United to retain their promising young player. It is widely held by club insiders that he has the potential to reach world-class status. Olusesi, who has netted six goals and provided four assists in the Under-18 Premier League this season, also proudly holds seven caps for the England Under-17 team.
