Media outlets in Italy have commenced highlighting a period of poor performance among Juventus wing-backs Timothy Weah and Filip Kostic, who, on average, stand as the Bianconeri’s lowest-performing players over their previous five matches.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Weah has encountered consistency issues since his €13m acquisition from Lille during the summer transfer window. The USMNT international was initially anticipated to be the preferred wide-man in Massimiliano Allegri’s 3-5-2 formation at the onset of the 2023-24 season. However, he has consistently lagged behind compatriot Weston McKennie and the dependable Andrea Cambiaso in the pecking order of the Bianconeri.
Thus far, Weah has commenced in eight out of Juve’s 27 Serie A matches this season, completing the entire 90 minutes on only two occasions. He has only been named in the starting lineup twice in the league since early November.
On the other hand, Kostic has been granted more opportunities as a starter under Allegri. He has been included in the lineup for 23 out of Juve’s last 25 matches, 21 times from the opening minute. Nevertheless, following the conclusion of the last five matches, Kostic and Weah have been identified as Juve’s poorest-performing players based on La Gazzetta dello Sport’s assessments.
Kostic currently maintains an average rating of 5.56, having recently fallen below Weah’s rating of 5.61.
