According to a report by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Victor Osimhen’s recent performance transcends being merely a “solution to Napoli’s problems.” The Nigerian striker’s hat-trick during a commanding 6-1 victory over Sassuolo underscores his significant impact on the team’s fortunes.
In an analysis of Napoli’s resounding triumph over Sassuolo, conducted on Wednesday as part of a rescheduled fixture from Week 21, the publication highlighted the pivotal role played by Osimhen. The 25-year-old’s remarkable hat-trick marks his fifth goal in three matches following his return from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Pierfrancesco Archetti, a journalist for the publication, aptly noted, “He is indeed the solution to Napoli’s problems, but his contributions extend beyond that.” Despite occasional errors, Osimhen persisted in creating opportunities, exemplified by his instrumental long ball that led to Kvara’s goal, sealing the scoreline at 5-1.
Osimhen received commendable ratings of 8/10 from both Gazzetta and Il Corriere dello Sport, while Tuttosport awarded him a stellar rating of 9. Corriere dello Sport lauded the Nigerian international as “unstoppable,” likening his impact to a “hurricane” that overwhelmed Sassuolo’s defenders, Ruan Tressoldi and Gian Marco Ferrari.
Napoli’s achievement of scoring six goals in a single match had not been realized since October 2022, during their away fixture against Ajax in the Champions League group stage.
Despite this impressive victory, the defending Serie A champions find themselves in 9th place on the league table, trailing fourth-placed Bologna by eight points.
