According to a report by Bild, Borussia Dortmund is gearing up for an active summer transfer window, with several players under consideration.
The current season has presented challenges for both Edin Terzić and Dortmund, particularly following their disappointment at home against Mainz on the final day of the previous season. However, since the beginning of the year, Die Schwarzgelben have witnessed a notable improvement in their performances, exemplified by their 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
Nonetheless, finishing in fourth place falls short of BvB’s ambitions, necessitating signings to bridge the gap between them and the dominant league leaders, Bayer Leverkusen. Dortmund’s efforts to secure Jadon Sancho’s long-term tenure have been previously reported; nevertheless, their recruitment endeavors extend beyond this objective.
It has come to light that Dortmund is eyeing central defender Dean Huijsen for a potential summer acquisition. The 18-year-old prospect has been earmarked as a potential successor to Mats Hummels, with Juventus reportedly placing a €30 million valuation on him, as per Sport Bild.
Additionally, Dortmund is seriously contemplating the acquisition of Chris Führich from Stuttgart. With Donyell Malen seeking an exit from the Westfalenstadion, Führich’s skill set is highly valued in Dortmund and could serve as an ideal replacement for the departing Dutchman.
However, midfield stands out as an area in dire need of reinforcement for Dortmund. The performances of Emre Can and Salih Özcan have been inconsistent, and Dortmund’s failure to secure Edson Álvarez in the previous summer necessitates corrective action.
Die Schwarzgelben have set their sights on Alan Varela from Porto, who has emerged as a pivotal figure for the Portuguese outfit since his arrival from Boca Juniors last summer. However, securing the Argentine midfielder is anticipated to be a challenging task.
Varela’s contract at Porto includes a €70 million release clause, and although Dortmund may negotiate a lower fee, the exact valuation by the Portuguese club remains uncertain. Consequently, Dortmund’s summer transfer endeavors are anticipated to require significant financial investment, but such actions are deemed necessary to meet their aspirations for the upcoming season.
