Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, has expressed optimism regarding the potential continuation of Mason Greenwood’s tenure in Spanish football beyond his current loan spell with Getafe.
Greenwood’s transfer to Getafe on the deadline day in September marked a departure from Manchester United’s initial plan to keep the forward. This decision followed an internal investigation into Greenwood’s behavior, prompted by the collapse of a legal case against him.
At that time, Manchester United indicated their belief that it was in Greenwood’s best interest to seek playing opportunities elsewhere, strongly suggesting that the English forward might not return to the club.
However, recent remarks from United’s new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, have hinted at a reevaluation of the situation. While not explicitly stating a preference for Greenwood’s comeback to Old Trafford, Ratcliffe suggested the need for a reassessment of the circumstances.
Speaking to reporters after participating in the Financial Times Business of Soccer Conference in London, Tebas, drawing on his legal background, emphasized his lack of interest in passing judgment on Greenwood. He highlighted that, in his view, the 22-year-old had been deemed “innocent” rather than having charges dropped.
“As a lawyer, if someone comes out of a legal case innocent, there is nothing else to say,” Tebas stated.”He is doing really well as a player and I hope he continues to stay in Spanish football. That is good for us.”
