Austria’s Christoph Baumgartner made history by scoring the quickest international goal ever during his team’s 2-0 triumph against Slovakia.
In a remarkable display of skill, Baumgartner swiftly maneuvered through the Slovakian defense and unleashed a powerful shot from a considerable distance outside the penalty area. The goal ignited jubilant celebrations both on and off the field, with his teammates mobbing him and the Austrian fans in the stands leaping with joy.
This remarkable feat surpassed Lukas Podolski’s previous record for Germany, set in 2013 against Ecuador, by a mere second. Austria had to wait until the 80th minute for their second goal, courtesy of Andreas Weinmann, securing their well-deserved victory.
Interestingly, the day also witnessed another incredibly early goal. Florian Wirtz of Germany achieved their fastest-ever international goal, taking just a fraction longer than Baumgartner, as his team triumphed 2-0 against France in Lyon. Wirtz’s goal, originating from a pre-planned move after receiving a long pass from Toni Kroos, was executed with precision from outside the box.
Germany’s manager, Julian Nagelsmann, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, highlighting their strong start and the importance of maintaining the lead. The early setback proved insurmountable for France, and when Kai Havertz scored Germany’s second goal shortly after halftime, their two-goal advantage remained unchallenged against the 2022 World Cup runners-up.
