Man United
Manchester United boasts the highest average attendance in English football, with Old Trafford being the largest club stadium in the Premier League. The club’s current owners have faced criticism for the deterioration of the historic ground over the past decade. However, new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has unveiled plans to construct a new stadium capable of accommodating 100,000 fans.
West Ham
West Ham has emerged as the best-supported club in the capital this season, drawing an average attendance of 62,433 fans at the London Stadium. The Hammers recently ended a 43-year trophy drought by clinching the Europa Conference League title last season. They have shown progress in recent years, participating in continental competitions for three consecutive seasons.
Under the guidance of David Moyes, West Ham aims to break into the top four in the upcoming years and secure Champions League football for the East End.
Tottenham
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is widely regarded as one of the premier football venues globally, boasting a cutting-edge design and a seating capacity of 62,850 since its inauguration in April 2019. Featuring the impressive 17,500-seat South Stand, the largest single-tier stand in the United Kingdom, the stadium offers a top-notch experience for fans.
Arsenal
Nearly twenty years ago, Arsenal made the strategic move from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium, aiming to provide their supporters with one of the finest and most spacious stadiums in English football. Currently, the Gunners enjoy the fourth-highest average attendance in the Premier League, with a staggering figure exceeding 60,000 fans per match.
Liverpool
Liverpool, on the other hand, has been focusing on enhancing Anfield’s facilities in recent years. The latest project involved expanding the Anfield Road stand, pushing the stadium’s total capacity to over 61,000 spectators. This initiative came after the successful expansion of Liverpool’s Main Stand, which was officially unveiled on 9 September 2016.
Man City
The Etihad Stadium attracts an average of over 53,000 fans for each home game, and the loyal Citizens supporters rarely witness their team lose on their own turf. Pep Guardiola’s team has an impressive unbeaten streak of 38 games in all competitions at home, with their last defeat occurring against Brentford in November 2022, just before the World Cup in Qatar. This strong home record was instrumental in their success in winning the treble last season, and they are currently in contention to defend those titles in the 2023/24 season.
Newcastle
St James’ Park, a renowned venue in English football, has an average attendance of 52,155 this season. After enduring some challenging years in the North East, there is a renewed sense of optimism among the fans as the club returned to the Champions League for the first time in two decades. The memorable 4-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at St James’ Park earlier in the season will be cherished by the supporters.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa’s dedicated fanbase has been rewarded this season, as Unai Emery’s team boasts one of the best home records in the Premier League. With an average attendance of 41,783 at Villa Park, they have secured 10 home wins so far, with only Arsenal and Liverpool managing more (11).
Sunderland
Sunderland, although not currently in the Premier League, stands out as the best-supported team in the Football League. More than 40,000 fans fill The Stadium of Light every other week, and their impressive run to the play-offs last season raised hopes of a return to the top flight. However, a turbulent campaign has resulted in Sunderland being on their third manager of the season and currently sitting 11th in the table, 13 points away from the Championship’s top six.
Chelsea
Since assuming ownership of Chelsea, Todd Boehly, the co-owner, has displayed a willingness to invest in the club. However, in order to expand or potentially rebuild Stamford Bridge, the American may need to provide a substantial amount of funds.
During the 2023/24 season, the Blues had an average attendance of 39,663, which ranks as the 10th highest figure in the country. It is currently known that Chelsea is in the process of finalizing plans to revamp their existing stadium and increase the capacity at Stamford Bridge to 60,000. However, if a complete rebuild is pursued, it could take several years to accomplish.
