Ahmed Refaat, a football player who has represented the Egyptian national team nine times and scored two goals, is currently experiencing critical moments of his life. He suffered a cardiac arrest during a match and is now under special care in the hospital.
The incident occurred during the round of 16 match of the Egyptian Championship, when Modern Future faced Al Ittihad. In the 89th minute of the match, Ahmed Refaat collapsed unconscious on the pitch. The 30-year-old player was immediately attended to by medical staff and had to be rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
According to a spokesperson for Ahmed Refaat’s club, Future, the player’s heart had stopped beating for over an hour, but doctors managed to revive it. Currently, Ahmed Refaat is receiving specialized care. His condition is assessed as unstable and requires further monitoring.
“We urge the media to respect the privacy as well as the health of the player, and we hope that the football fans of Egypt pray for Ahmed Refaat to recover as soon as possible,” affirmed the Future club.
Refaat made his debut for the Egyptian national team in 2013, but it wasn’t until December 2021 that he made his second appearance for the national team. Since then, this forward has been frequently utilized. Up to now, Refaat has appeared nine times for the national team and scored two goals. He predominantly serves as a substitute to preserve the energy of key players such as Trezeguet or Salah.
Refaat is renowned in the domestic league. He has previously played for Zamalek, Al Masry, and most recently, Future. The football community in Egypt is praying for this forward to wake up from his cardiac arrest and, further, to return to his football career.
