Serie A clubs and players observed a commemoration in memory of the late Davide Astori on the occasion of his death anniversary, which occurred on Monday.
Davide Astori, the former captain of Fiorentina, tragically passed away at the age of 31 six years prior in Udine, just before a Serie A encounter between Fiorentina and Udinese. The former Italian international succumbed to tachyarrhythmia, characterized by an abnormal acceleration of the heartbeat, while in his sleep.
Having played as a defender for notable Serie A clubs including Milan, Roma, Cagliari, and Fiorentina, Astori had garnered 14 caps for the Italian national team, with one goal to his credit.
On the sixth anniversary of his passing, all of Astori’s former clubs, along with numerous former teammates, paid tribute to his memory.
“Today marks six years since Davide Astori passed away. Gone but never forgotten, his memory shall live on,” wrote Milan on X, formerly Twitter.
Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic, who was once part of the Fiorentina Academy six years ago, recently reposted a social media update from Lega Serie A on his Instagram stories. Additionally, Leonardo Bonucci shared a heartfelt tribute on his own social media platform, featuring a photo of himself and Astori during their time together on international duty with the Italian team, captioned with the words, “Goodbye my friend.”
Following Astori’s passing, his relatives and friends established the NGO ‘Association Davide Astori,’ dedicated to advancing the legacy of sports and football, as well as the ethical and moral principles underlying them. The association’s primary focus is on assisting underprivileged children, a cause that resonates deeply due to Astori’s longstanding commitment to their well-being.
