Sassuolo has initiated discussions with Gennaro Gattuso and Fabio Grosso as part of their search for a suitable replacement for Alessio Dionisi.
The decision to seek a change came after Sassuolo’s disappointing 3-2 defeat to Empoli at home on Sunday, a result that has left the club positioned 17th in the league standings, level on points with relegation-threatened teams Hellas Verona and Cagliari.
Despite Dionisi’s previous successes at Sassuolo, the current season witnessed a decline in performance, culminating in an inability to steer the team back on track, thus exposing them to the risk of relegation as the season progresses.
According to reports from Calciomercato.com, Sassuolo has reached out to Gattuso, Grosso, and Davide Ballardini in recent hours, considering various options following Dionisi’s dismissal.
All three coaches have expressed a desire for a long-term project, with contract durations extending until either June 2025 or 2026. At present, Sassuolo is not rushing into a decision, opting to temporarily entrust the team to Primavera coach Emiliano Bigica.
