Maurizio Sarri has opted to tender his resignation from his position at Lazio due to the team’s unsatisfactory performance, conveying his decision to the club’s management.
Lazio suffered their twelfth defeat of the Serie A season on Monday evening, succumbing to relegation-threatened Udinese in a 2-1 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico. Following the match, emotions ran high, and the squad faced disapproval from the remaining supporters as they exited the field.
In response to the team’s poor form, Lazio president Claudio Lotito and sporting director Angelo Fabiani convened the squad for a training camp, aiming to reverse their fortunes ahead of the remaining ten matches of the season. Notably, the club remains engaged in the Coppa Italia and is set to encounter Juventus in the semi-finals next month.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Calciomercato.com, and La Lazio Siamo Noi, Sarri has elected to step down from his role at Lazio and has officially communicated his resignation, thereby vacating his position with immediate effect.
Following Lazio’s defeat to Udinese, Sarri conducted a tense meeting with the squad in an attempt to comprehend the reasons behind their downturn in form. Despite no players expressly requesting his departure, the absence of any significant support for his continuation prompted Sarri to submit his resignation.
