Salernitana’s Chief Executive Officer, Maurizio Milan, has affirmed that the organization is presently deliberating the potential dismissal of Coach Fabio Liverani. Additionally, Director Walter Sabatini faces a similar prospect. The club currently occupies the bottom position in the Serie A standings and has faced impending relegation for a considerable duration. Today’s 1-0 home loss to Lecce exacerbated the situation, leaving Salernitana trailing by 11 points from the safety zone with merely nine rounds left in the season.
“There is great regret, especially for our fans who never abandoned us,” CEO Milan told DAZN.
“There will be reflection and evaluation over the next few hours along with the President, and it will also involve evaluating the coach Liverani. The fact he is not here answering your questions is already a sign.”
It is challenging to envision how a change in management could provide significant improvement, considering Liverani now stands as the third coach for Salernitana during this campaign.
Paulo Sousa commenced the season until his termination on October 10, presiding over one victory in Coppa Italia, three draws in Serie A, and five defeats.
Following Sousa’s departure, Pippo Inzaghi assumed the managerial position until February 11, accruing three victories, four draws, and 10 losses across all competitions.
Liverani assumed the managerial reins on February 11, securing one draw alongside three losses.
Historically, Salernitana has sought revitalization through January transfer window upheavals; however, despite the return of director Sabatini, the anticipated resurgence did not materialize this season.
“We thought after the window that we had revitalised the squad. Even a week of keeping everyone in a training retreat had little impact.
“There is disappointment and I am here to send a strong signal. Reflection is our duty towards a city, a fanbase and a club that invested a great deal.”
Milan also announced this would be the final interview from anyone associated with Salernitana, as “from now on the club will speak only via press statements.”
