Roma striker Sardar Azmoun is set to return to Rome following a significant hamstring injury sustained while representing the Iran national team during international duty. The 29-year-old athlete exhibited his prowess by scoring in a commanding 5-0 victory over Turkmenistan on Thursday; however, he was compelled to depart the field later due to the aforementioned injury to his hamstring.
Having already undergone initial medical evaluations in Iran, Azmoun is now en route to the capital city to undergo further assessment by the medical staff at Roma.
Initial reports on Azmoun’s condition have raised concerns among Roma officials and the team’s supporters. In an interview with Varzesh3 following the match, the striker expressed apprehension about the severity of his injury, stating, “My injury is significant, necessitating an MRI scan. I am inclined to believe it is a tear of the hamstring tendon.”
Azmoun currently represents Roma on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, with the Giallorossi retaining an option to secure his permanent transfer in the upcoming summer transfer window. Thus far in the season, the Iranian international has contributed two goals and two assists in 21 appearances across various competitions.
Roma is anticipated to issue an official statement subsequent to Azmoun’s medical examinations in the capital, providing further updates on his condition.
