Concerns arose for Roma during their Europa League play-off against Feyenoord when defender Diego Llorente was stretchered off after an accidental head collision.
The incident occurred during a challenge for the ball with Ayase Ueda in the 80th minute. Llorente appeared to sustain a blow to his temple from Ueda’s shoulder and was visibly dazed. After several minutes of on-field treatment, he was unable to continue and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
While Llorente never lost consciousness, he was deemed unfit to play further. The 30-year-old Spaniard is currently on loan at Roma from Leeds United with a €5 million purchase option that becomes mandatory upon meeting specific conditions.
His departure from the field allowed Roma to introduce Evan Ndicka for his first appearance of 2024 since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.
The match ultimately concluded with a 1-1 draw, mirroring the first leg in Rotterdam. This result sends the tie to extra time at the Stadio Olimpico, where both sides will strive to secure their place in the Europa League group stage.
