“The lads were fantastic. In the first 10-15 minutes, Atalanta pressed us high up the pitch and we didn’t start like we usually do. We needed to settle down, but then we played very well, scored and rediscovered the ferocity that characterises us. These are great signs for our journey, which must continue unabated.
As regards my celebration with Dimarco when he made it 3-0, I’d spoken with him while the VAR check was taking place. I told him to be ready to run into the box to meet any potential rebound. The ball ended up in that zone and Federico did really well to score a goal that had us well on our way to victory. It’s important to improve these aspects; there’s something to learn in every detail and every match.
The team are playing well, and we’ve won five trophies and been involved in a Champions League final in recent times. Together with our fans, we’re doing great things. We know that we’ve managed to create this gap in a month, but there are still many games to go and we need to stay focused because everything can change quickly in football. We have a team that sticks to its principles even when there is a change of personnel.
That’s my biggest satisfaction, together with the atmosphere that has been created at San Siro. Right now, it’s difficult for me to make my choices. For example, Dumfries would have deserved to start today, but Darmian played and was exceptional in the first half. I need to make difficult decisions on a daily basis, but I have wonderful lads at my disposal who always give everything, whether they play ten minutes or for the full 90.”
“I’m very happy here, with the Club, the fans and the whole environment.
However, we still have three months to go this season. We’re all happy to see Inter play like this. Frattesi is in excellent form and one of the players who is penalised the most by my choices. He’s doing really well and needs to keep it up. It’d be a shame if he was forced to sit on the sidelines for a period because he’s in brilliant shape. I only have good things to say about Bastoni.
He’s played over 100 games since I arrived and only been below par in perhaps one or two. He has wonderful technical ability and is a hugely intelligent player. He loves Inter, and we’re happy to have him here. He needs to keep it up. It’s disappointing that he picked up a booking, meaning he’ll miss Monday’s match.
He’s a very important player for us, but it’ll give him a chance to rest and he’ll be ready for the next one. ”
