Real Madrid has reportedly ceased their immediate pursuit of Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich as contract negotiations at the Allianz Arena encounter delays. The 23-year-old has prominently featured for the German powerhouse since transitioning from MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps in December 2018, accumulating 184 appearances across all competitions.
Despite Bayern’s somewhat underwhelming season thus far, Davies has exhibited a commendable performance, contributing to four goals from defense in 21 Bundesliga outings. While Thomas Tuchel’s team currently trails Bayer Leverkusen by 10 points in the race for the German title, the left-back stands a chance to secure his second Champions League title, with Bayern set to encounter Arsenal in the quarter-finals next month.
According to MARCA, Real Madrid has postponed their long-term pursuit of Davies as they monitor unfolding developments at his current club, Bayern Munich. The report suggests that Bayern has presented a contract offer to the Canadian international, who is yet to reach an agreement on new terms in Germany.
It is understood that Davies, along with his representatives, must reach an agreement with Bayern by early April or propose a counteroffer. Failure to meet this deadline could potentially lead to negotiations involving Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
It is speculated that Bayern acknowledges the possibility of Davies departing the Allianz Arena at the end of the 2023-24 season. However, they intend to drive a hard bargain for his signature, with initial negotiations rumored to commence at around €50 million (£42.8 million).
Real Madrid is also reportedly keeping tabs on other players within Bayern’s ranks, including German international Jamal Musiala. The 21-year-old has tallied 10 goals in 21 league appearances for Bayern this season, surpassing his previous best of 12 Bundesliga goals in the 2022-23 campaign.
However, Real faces stiff competition for Musiala’s services, with Premier League clubs Liverpool and Manchester City purportedly expressing interest in the player.
Following his participation with Canada during the March international break, Davies is expected to rejoin Bayern in time for their crucial fixture against Borussia Dortmund on March 30.
