A disturbing accusation has emerged regarding a Premier League footballer’s property, potentially involving illegal drug activity. According to The Sun, a criminal gang allegedly took control of the property and forced the tenant to cultivate cannabis.
Sources claim the tenant was forced to live amidst the illicit crop. Upon raiding the property, police reportedly required the footballer to demonstrate his innocence to avoid charges.
A source elaborated, “This player owns the house in the north-west as part of his buy-to-let portfolio. A family member manages the properties, but they were shocked when police discovered a large-scale cannabis farm. The plants were seized and destroyed, and the player had to prove he wasn’t directly involved by presenting documentation confirming another tenant resided there.”
The source further claims the police released the tenant without charges, suspecting she was coerced by the gang.
Landlords are legally obligated to report suspected illegal activity occurring on their properties. Failure to do so could result in penalties similar to those faced by the perpetrators themselves, including potential seizure of rental income under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
This incident follows last week’s sentencing of former footballer Wayne McKenzie, who received a 30-year prison term for operating a gun and drug smuggling ring with his brother. The brothers imported cocaine and cannabis from various international locations, along with firearms, during a three-month period in 2020. The drugs had a street value of £2 million and were distributed across the UK.
