Former Italy coach Cesare Prandelli asserts that Juventus standout Dusan Vlahovic possesses an intrinsic drive, while highlighting the crucial absence of consistency in Federico Chiesa, which he deems indispensable for the Bianconeri.
Chiesa and Vlahovic showcased contrasting performances in Juventus’ 3-2 triumph over Frosinone on Sunday. While the Serbian international netted twice and provided an assist for Daniele Rugani’s decisive goal, Chiesa was substituted after a mere 60 minutes.
Vlahovic has notably emerged as the leading scorer in Europe’s top five leagues in 2024.
Prandelli, a former Fiorentina and Italy coach who previously worked with Vlahovic at the Stadio Franchi, appears unsurprised by the striker’s exceptional form this season.
In an interview published in Monday’s print edition of Tuttosport, Prandelli remarked, “He exudes greater self-assurance and is deeply convinced of his role within Juventus. Against Frosinone, he single-handedly propelled Juventus forward. He has the potential to evolve into a leader and serve as the quintessential figure for personality, technical prowess, and goal-scoring ability.”
Continuing, the former Azzurri tactician emphasized Vlahovic’s intrinsic drive, stating, “He possesses an innate passion and is deeply invested in the acknowledgment he receives from his teammates and the environment. When he feels trusted, he delivers his utmost.”
Vlahovic tallied 11 goals in 23 appearances under Prandelli at Fiorentina, notably cementing a regular starting role at the Stadio Franchi during the 2020-21 campaign.
Although Prandelli did not mentor Chiesa during his tenure at Fiorentina, he remains convinced that the Italian forward has untapped potential in Turin.
Elaborating on Chiesa’s situation, Prandelli remarked, “What Juventus requires for a significant improvement is the optimal version of Chiesa. While I cannot pinpoint the exact deficiency, he necessitates consistency, a quality that holds paramount importance for Juventus.”
