In light of mounting speculation suggesting a possible transfer to Saudi Arabia for Kevin De Bruyne this summer, Pep Guardiola has offered his perspective on the Belgian superstar’s future with Manchester City.
De Bruyne, who has recently made a remarkable return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines following significant hamstring surgery, has been pivotal in City’s current 17-game unbeaten streak across all competitions. His impactful contributions in terms of crucial goals and assists since his comeback have underscored his importance to the team’s success.
However, there have been recent reports linking the 32-year-old with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League, which has become an increasingly attractive destination for aging European superstars due to the league’s financial growth in recent years.
Despite indications from sources like the Athletic’s Sam Lee that De Bruyne and his family prefer to stay in Manchester, City manager Pep Guardiola remains uncertain about the Belgian’s future with the club.
“It’s a question for him,” Guardiola said. “I would love that he stays, but I don’t know. I listen, yeah, from some links, but I don’t know if he has an offer.
“I don’t know if Saudi Arabia wants him, I don’t know. I would love for him to stay here, of course. But everyone is everyone.”
Manchester City must now focus on their upcoming schedule, which includes challenging fixtures against Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool in March.
While the team is currently in a strong position to compete on multiple fronts and potentially secure a second consecutive treble, the next few weeks will be crucial in determining whether this season will be regarded as a success or a disappointment.
