Following Roma’s 4-1 victory over Monza, Raffaele Palladino appeared to make a pointed remark towards José Mourinho, suggesting that Daniele De Rossi’s influence has revitalized the Giallorossi.
Roma achieved their sixth triumph in seven Serie A encounters under the guidance of De Rossi on Saturday, triumphing 4-1 at the U-Power Stadium against Monza.
Palladino and De Rossi share a close friendship, having undergone the same coaching program at Coverciano. However, Palladino also had contentious interactions with Mourinho, the predecessor of De Rossi, during the latter’s tenure at the Stadio Olimpico.
Following Roma’s convincing victory, Palladino extended his congratulations to De Rossi. Nevertheless, during a post-match interview with DAZN, he subtly alluded to past disagreements with Mourinho, which seemed to carry a tinge of taunt towards the former Roma coach.
“The cub [Roma] have made a wise choice. I have always wished De Rossi would become the Roma coach,” Palladino said as quoted by Tuttosport.
“He has freed this team; he has given the players the freedom to move. He has quality and this makes a difference. He also has formidable players and you can see his ideas. I am happy for Daniele, but not for tonight’s result.”
Palladino contended that Monza did not merit a significant defeat against the Giallorossi; nonetheless, he extended congratulations to Roma and De Rossi following the match.
Monza has amassed eight points in their last five matches, currently occupying the 11th position in the Serie A standings with 36 points from 27 games. The Brianzoli find themselves six points adrift of 7th-placed Fiorentina subsequent to their defeat at home to Roma on Saturday.
