Napoli has disclosed that Victor Osimhen underwent separate training sessions on Friday as a consequence of a muscle injury incurred during a Champions League encounter against Barcelona on Tuesday. Consequently, Osimhen faces the possibility of absence from Sunday’s Serie A fixture between Napoli and Inter at San Siro due to the aforementioned muscle ailment.
In an official communique released on Friday, Napoli stated that their prominent forward engaged in separate training activities in the morning, citing muscle fatigue stemming from Tuesday’s match against Barcelona. As per reports from Sky Sport Italia, Osimhen is significantly at risk of being sidelined for the impending away fixture at San Siro.
The Nigeria international has amassed a total of 13 goals in 24 appearances across various competitions this season. Presently, Napoli occupies the 7th position in the Serie A standings, trailing 4th-placed Bologna by seven points.
Having been ousted from the Champions League Round of 16 by Barcelona earlier in the week, Napoli’s recent Serie A performance has been lackluster, securing victory in only two out of their last five outings. Despite recently agreeing to a contract extension until 2026, Osimhen’s new deal with Napoli includes a release clause valued at €130 million.
