Manchester United faces a challenging task in securing a spot in next year’s Uefa Champions League, as Mason Mount acknowledges the difficulty following their draw with Brentford.
The home team, Brentford, displayed a strong performance by taking 31 shots during the match. Despite this, Manchester United managed to score a goal in stoppage time, with Mount netting his first goal for the club after joining from Chelsea last summer.
“When you go 1-0 up right at the end you want to try and hang onto that,” Mount told Sky Sports after the full-time whistle.
“If you look at the game overall it wasn’t to our standard. We know that. When you score at the death you think you can maybe hang on. But maybe we didn’t deserve it.
In a surprising turn of events, Brentford managed to salvage a point when Ivan Toney skillfully assisted Kristoffer Ajer, resulting in a thrilling equalizer in the 99th minute of the match.
As a consequence, Manchester United now finds themselves trailing Aston Villa and the top four by a margin of 11 points, significantly diminishing their chances of qualifying for the prestigious Champions League tournament.
