Mason Greenwood is urging Spanish football authorities to halt their investigation into allegations that Jude Bellingham directed a slur at him during a match. The incident was brought to the attention of the RFEF by La Liga for further examination.
‘It must also be reported that after the end of the match, messages were detected through social media regarding a possible incident in which visiting player Jude Bellingham allegedly insulted local player Mason Greenwood in English,’ an incident report noted.
‘Numerous media outlets have reported on this incident, as evidenced in the attached incident report.’
Following a robust tackle by Jude Bellingham on a Getafe player, footage of the incident circulated on social media, prompting speculation among fans. Some viewers believed they observed Bellingham mutter the word ‘rapist’ directed at Mason Greenwood, the forward for the opposing team.
It’s worth noting that Greenwood had faced serious allegations himself, including attempted rape, assault, and coercive behavior, in January 2022. However, these charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023 due to the withdrawal of key witnesses.
In response to the alleged insult, Spanish reports suggest that Bellingham could face disciplinary action, potentially resulting in a suspension of up to four games in accordance with the regulations, if it is determined that he did indeed make the derogatory remark towards Greenwood.
