Gianluca Mancini’s goal secured a 1-0 victory for Roma against AC Milan in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final at the San Siro stadium.
The defender scored from a corner taken by Paulo Dybala in the 17th minute, giving Roma an advantage heading into the second leg in Rome next week.
Despite Olivier Giroud hitting the woodwork late in the game, Milan failed to equalize against Roma, a team they had previously defeated twice in Serie A matches. Roma is aiming to reach their third consecutive European final.
Daniele de Rossi took over as manager after a 3-1 defeat to Milan in January, following which Jose Mourinho was sacked. Since then, Roma has only lost twice in all competitions.
The winner of the Italian clash will meet either West Ham or Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-finals, with Xabi Alonso’s team leading 2-0 after the first leg.
Roma won the Europa Conference League in the 2021-22 season and finished as runners-up in last year’s Europa League final against Sevilla.
