Manchester United is purportedly poised to present an offer for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana in the initial phases of the forthcoming transfer window.
The status of Casemiro’s future at United remains uncertain, particularly with Sir Jim Ratcliffe expected to adopt a more stringent approach to transfers and contracts during his tenure. Despite the Brazilian’s lucrative five-year contract upon his arrival in 2022, his performance this season has been lackluster.
In light of United’s ongoing struggle with Premier League Profit & Sustainability Rules, Ratcliffe aims to trim expenses to accommodate potential new signings. Raphael Varane’s contract is set to expire this summer, with no renewal currently on the table, while United is open to offers for Antony.
Concurrently, Brentford manager Thomas Frank has hinted at the possibility of 32-year-old Christian Eriksen making a return. Erik ten Hag has identified central midfield as a priority for improvement this summer, with Onana frequently mentioned as a prospective addition.
According to SPORT, United is preparing to make an offer when the summer transfer window commences. Arsenal is also reportedly assembling an offer, with Everton seeking £50 million for their player.
This valuation could deter interest from Barcelona, who have been monitoring Onana’s situation. Despite the Spanish champions expressing willingness to meet a price around £35 million, Everton, constrained by Financial Fair Play regulations, is reluctant to compromise, potentially giving United and Arsenal an edge.
Ratcliffe’s decision may hinge on the possibility of offloading other players, as other areas of the squad require attention. With Anthony Martial set to depart at the end of his contract, United is expected to seek attacking reinforcement for Rasmus Hojlund.
Reports suggest that 18-year-old Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich has caught United’s attention. However, new club director Max Eberl has downplayed talks of Tel’s departure.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Eberl stated: “It should be possible to achieve success with Bayern while still fostering player development. We aim to support the growth of players like Tel.”
A potential move for Tel by United would only be viable if an attacking player leaves. Antony appears to be the most probable candidate, although the Daily Mail suggests United may struggle to recoup even half of the £85 million they paid for him 18 months ago, posing challenges to compliance with Financial Fair Play regulations.
