Manchester United’s performance in front of goal this season has been the least impressive among the top half teams in the Premier League, underscoring the urgent need for improvements in their offensive capabilities come summer.
According to media reports, Manchester United is purportedly exploring the possibility of securing the services of Rodrygo during the upcoming summer transfer window. As per a publication by Sport (see attached press image), the club has initiated contact to inquire about the procedures involved in acquiring the Brazilian forward from Real Madrid.
Real Madrid, a 14-time European champion, has unequivocally stated that the 23-year-old Rodrygo is deemed ‘non-transferable’ and will only be considered for departure should he express a desire to leave himself.
In the event that Rodrygo, who is also drawing interest from Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal, opts to depart, Real Madrid would reportedly seek a transfer fee of £86 million.
Throughout the ongoing campaign, the South American attacker has consistently been a regular starter, directly contributing to 21 goals across all competitions.
However, his future prospects may face complications with the potential arrivals of Mbappe and Endrick in the summer, adding to the competition alongside current players Joselu and Diaz.
Manchester United previously expended £86 million to secure the services of Antony two years ago, a move that has since proven to be a significant disappointment for the club. In light of this, there appears to be a consensus that Antony should be offloaded during the forthcoming transfer window.
Given the pressing need for proven quality playmakers to bolster the squad ahead of the next season, the question arises: should Manchester United consider investing the same £86 million sum to secure the signature of Rodrygo?
