Martinez had recently made his return to the team after coming on as a substitute against Brentford, filling in for the injured Lindelof.
United had high hopes for Martinez, as they were eager to build their defense around him. However, his fitness has been a constant concern, and despite his recent return to training, he has once again suffered an injury setback.
The Argentine international had just recovered from a previous injury when he strained his calf during a training session. As a result, he now faces another month on the sidelines.
Ten Hag, the coach, had been counting on Martinez to be fit enough to start the match against Chelsea on Thursday night. Unfortunately, that won’t be the case.
Lindelof, who has also struggled with injuries this season, will join Martinez on the sidelines. The Swedish international sustained a hamstring injury during the draw against Brentford and will also be out of action for a month.
With 20 minutes remaining in the match against the Bees, Martinez was brought on to replace the 29-year-old Lindelof.
In an official statement on their website, Manchester United confirmed that both Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez, their center-backs, will be unavailable for at least a month due to muscle injuries.
