Manchester United has increased the amount they are prepared to offer for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong ahead of the summer, as per reports.
The Red Devils have previously been associated with the Netherlands international, particularly during the initial summer of Erik ten Hag’s tenure as manager.
Although Man Utd showed interest in De Jong, the player himself had no desire to depart from Barcelona, despite the Catalan club’s alleged efforts to reduce his salary.
Speculation has persisted in every transfer window since then, and De Jong recently criticized the media for spreading “lies” about his contract and future.
In February, De Jong expressed his frustration with the inaccurate reports about his salary and future, emphasizing his contentment at Barcelona and his desire to continue playing there for years to come.
According to Spanish publication Nacional, Manchester United remains keen on De Jong and has increased their bid to €90m (£77m), although the exact value of their previous offer was not disclosed.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta reportedly has a €90 million offer from Manchester United on the table, and De Jong is no longer considered untouchable.
Manager Erik ten Hag is eager to work with De Jong again, having previously managed him successfully at Ajax.
Barcelona would be shedding one of the highest salaries in the squad by parting ways with De Jong, who is also linked with Bayern Munich in the same report, as he is seen as a player who could help balance the club’s finances.
