Manchester United’s pursuit of Federico Chiesa this summer could face obstacles, as Liverpool has reportedly entered the race with an initial offer for the Juventus player.
Chiesa gained recognition during his time at Fiorentina but made a significant career move in October 2020 by joining Juve.
The Bianconeri initially secured his services on a two-year loan for €10 million, later making the deal permanent for €40 million (£34 million) in the summer of 2022.
Although primarily a left winger, Chiesa is versatile and can also play as a right winger or second striker. He had a remarkable summer in 2021, contributing two goals to Italy’s triumph in the European Championship.
However, his progress was hindered by a long-term injury after tearing his ACL in January 2022. Nevertheless, he has made a successful recovery and has scored seven goals in 24 Serie A matches this season.
There is belief that with the right guidance, Chiesa has the potential to elevate his game and establish himself as a top-tier talent. The Premier League could provide the platform for him to achieve this.
Chiesa’s departure from Juventus would not only assist in stabilizing the club’s finances, but it would also open up the opportunity to pursue long-time target Mateo Retegui from Genoa.
Although Chiesa may not continue playing under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, he could potentially collaborate with esteemed coach Xabi Alonso.
Liverpool is currently in competition with Bayern Munich for Alonso, who has led Bayer Leverkusen to an impressive unbeaten season thus far.
Given the option between Salah and Chiesa, Liverpool supporters would likely opt for the former. Nevertheless, there is a possibility that Liverpool might consider selling their Egyptian star this summer in order to secure funds for squad restructuring, with a potential move to Saudi Arabia valued at over £100m.
